SunFlower Picking!

We’ve been creating sunflower grids for years, testing different varieties of sunflowers, and testing different methods for seeding our beds for optimal growth. During the summer of 2023, we’ll have two different varieties growing in smaller rows for picking.

In addition to picking, you’ll notice ( and should keep in mind! ) that our sunflowers bring many different varieties of bees and pollinators to our yard. You’ll see the big heads full of not only seeds and bright beautiful yellow leaves, but pollinators enjoying some nectar and collecting pollen. These sunflowers attract all kinds of native bees, bumble bees, and honey bees to enjoy feeding and pollen collection from their big bright faces. Not only do our sunflowers bring beneficial insects to the area, they eventually dry up and help reseed the next batch or provide dry seeds for birds or humans to eat. We’ve eaten lots of our natural seed and it’s pretty cool to just collect them as our ancestors did back in the day when they wanted a snack.

If you’d like to stop by and see or pick some sunflowers,  sign up for an appointment below! We limit the total amount of visitors to give everyone a quiet and peaceful visit.
